About leg vein removal...

Laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in your blood and collapses the unwanted vein. The veins then become lighter or disappear. Some may not be affected at all and may need to be done again.

The leg veins may be done in the same area, eight weeks apart.

Before your treatment...

48 hours prior to the procedure, it is recommended to stop the use of ibuprofen, naprosyn, aspirin, and blood thinners.

For the treatment...

If you choose, you can bring a pair of shorts along to change into for the procedure.

If you prefer, a topical anesthetic can be purchased beforehand. It needs to be applied 45 minutes prior to treatment.

An aloe gel is applied to the area to help protect and cool the skin.

The treatment usually takes 15-20 minutes per session.

After your treatment...

It is very important to wear compression stockings for 72 hours after your treatment. These stockings help to keep pressure on the collapsed veins and keep the blood from reopening them. You can take them off to shower, but should put them on immediately afterwards. Your results will be better if the stockings are worn!

Also after treatment, it is important not to exercise, use a hot tub, or sauna for at least 48 hours after the procedure. All three of these may cause the blood to reopen the closed veins.

It is also recommended after treatment to stop the use of any alcohol, ibuprofen, naprosyn, aspirin, or blood thinners for at least the 48 hours after leg vein treatment.

You can expect some redness and swelling immediately following the treatment, which may convert to a "cat scratch" scab for up to 2-3 weeks. In the larger, darker veins, there may be some bruising instead of the "cat scratch."

Leg vein resolution usually takes about 8-12 weeks. Facial vein resolution takes up to two weeks. At the end of this process, some vessels may be gone while others may be lighter or not affected.

Laser treatment for Skin Rejuvenation and Sun Damage

About skin rejuvenation...

This treatment uses laser to eliminate and reduce wrinkles and improve facial toning. In addition to the face and neck, it can also be performed on the chest, hands, arms, and legs.

For wrinkles and skin toning, the laser works to stimulate the collagen growth. For uneven skin tone and hyper pigmentation, the laser helps to balance skin tone and can decrease or get rid of facial veins, red spots, rosaceae, sun spots or age spots, and freckles.

Results are cumulative. You will see the most results with wrinkle reduction and toning after your treatment series is complete. Subtle changes will accumulate after every treatment.

The cumulative results are why a series of six treatments is needed for the collagen stimulation. These are done every 2 weeks. The laser for hyper pigmentation is used every four weeks. For every other treatment, two lasers are used.

Occasional maintenance treatments may be prescribed for optimal, lasting results.

Before your treatment...

Discontinue the use of glycolic, vitamin C products, and Retin-A 48 hours before your treatment.

Do not tan for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

For the treatment...

The treatment usually takes between 20 and 45 minutes.

Your makeup will be removed, but may be reapplied immediately following the procedure.

After your treatment...

It is VERY important to wear at least SPF 30 sun screen after your treatment. This helps protect your skin from any future sun damage. Also the sun can reverse the work that is being done by the laser procedure. Sun screen is available for purchase at our office.

...You may experience some redness and swelling after the procedure, especially if you have had any sun spots removed, or facial veins taken care of. This redness and swelling usually disappears in 1-3 hours, or may last up to a day.

If you have had facial veins worked on, it is important to avoid the use of hot tubs and saunas for 48 hours after your treatment.

You may continue the use of glycolic, vitamin C products, and Retin-A as soon as all irritation from the procedure has disappeared.

Scabbing may also occur with the sunspots. (Sunspots may turn gray, scab and eventually fade or fall off.)

Hair growth may be impaired in the treated area.

Laser treatment of Hair Removal

About hair removal...

Laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle while your hair is in its active phase of hair growth. The laser light is converted into heat causing thermal damage to the follicle without harming the surrounding skin. Hair regrowth is impeded in the damaged follicle.

Only 30% of your hair is in its active phase at one time. That is why a series of treatments are needed.

The average clinical study sees a 48% reduction in hair growth after three treatments and up to an 80% lasting reduction after 6-8 treatments (results may vary). After completing 4-6 treatments, any remaining hair will usually be finer and lighter in color.

Some patients may require 1-2 touch up treatments per year.

Blond, platinum, most red, gray and vellus (void of color) hair will not respond to this type of treatment.

Treatment sessions vary anywhere in time from 15 minutes to 60 minutes and over. The time depends greatly on the area of treatment.

Before your treatment...

No waxing, plucking, or electrolysis in the treatment area, two weeks prior to treatment.

Discontinue the use of hair removal lotions or hair bleach for two weeks prior to treatment.

Discontinue the use of glycolics and Retin-A products for 48 hours before treatment.

For the treatment...

If you prefer, a topical anesthetic can be purchased beforehand. It needs to be applied 45 minutes prior to treatment.

You will NEED TO COME to the appointment clean shaven. We can shave the area, but there will be an additional $75 fee.

After your treatment...

You may expect mild redness and swelling that may last 2-3 hours or up to one day.

It is important to only shave during the hair removal process (no waxing, plucking or electrolysis).

The use of glycolic or Retin-A can be continued after all irritation has disappeared.

It is very important to use sun screen on treated areas. Your skin will be more sensitive to sunlight because of the laser treatments.

Do not tan in a tanning bed for 48 hours after procedure.

You can use a cold compress to reduce the redness and swelling.

Also a hydrocortisone cream may be applied if there is any irritation.

HAIR loss may be evident 10 days to two weeks after the treatment.
